October is a great time to get outdoors with your pup! The weather is cooler and Fall is the perfect time to get out and about for exercise and engagement around metro Washington, DC. October 13 – Yappy Hour at MetroBar

Bring your furry friends and dress your pups up in their best outfits to win a prize! Join us from 6:00-9:00 pm. We’re dishing up doggie beer, puppuccinos, treats from Chippin, belly rubs, and more! Grab your pup and a beer, and let’s pawty!

October 15 – 2022 DC Animal Health Fair

Visit the DC Animal Health Fair from 10:00-12:30 pm. There will be free vaccines available – rabies and distemper. Dog licenses will also be available for purchase.

October 20 – Yappy Hour at Shop Made in DC NE

Pet-Friendly Halloween Events

October 27 – Fairmont’s 11th Annual Howl-O-Ween

Join us from 6:00-7:30 pm for Fairmont’s 11th annual Howl-O-Ween. Treat your dog to peanut butter doggie biscuits, a “puptail” cocktail, or a Doggie Dinner. Enjoy a costume contest where local celebrity judges will award prizes for the most creative, most adorable, funniest, and honorable mentions. Prizes will be awarded at 7:00 pm to costumed doggies with their people, such as overnight stays, dinners, and more.

October 30 – Pet Portraits at the Congressional Cemetery

Stop by from 11:00-3:00 pm and get a portrait of your dog in their Halloween costume! The cost is $30 and if you need them, there will be spare costumes and spooky decor on site for use. Portraits will take place between the Chapel and the Sousa family plot. The cemetery will remain open to the public and dog walkers.

October 30th – Hirshhorn Howl-o-ween

Dress up with your pup! The Hirshhorn is hosting its annual Howl-o-ween, Sunday, Oct. 30, 11 am-12:30 pm. Join us with your costumed dog for a morning of dress-up and art in the Hirshhorn’s outdoor Sculpture Garden. Advance registration is required.

October 22 & 23 – Mount Vernon Fall Harvest Festival

Join us for a fall celebration featuring 18th-century farming demonstrations. Tickets include access to the festival and the estate. The cost for adults (12+) is $28, youth (6-11) are $15, and kids 5 and under are free. Visit us from 9:00-5:00 pm on October 22nd and 23rd. View demonstrations of 18th-century cooking, candle making, surveying, and coopering. Visit the Farrier to learn how horseshoeing was performed in the 18th century.

October 27 – Sleepy Howllow at Barkhaus

Join us for an enchanted evening from 7:00- 10:00 pm in the woods of sleepy ‘howllow’ but beware of the spirits and wolves that lurk amongst the trees. You’re invited to our second-anniversary celebration! Barkhaus will completely transform into a haunted forest for a private Halloween event. Costumes and tickets are required. Tickets are $40 for members and $55 for the public. Admission includes drinks and snacks for you and your canine companion.

October 29 – Nightmare at Barkhaus

Get ready for the spookiest night of your life as we celebrate All Hallows’ Eve with the living and the dead! It’s your pup’s favorite season and Barkhaus dares to invite all four-legged friends and their parents to our third annual Halloween party! There will be a doggie costume contest with prizes. The runway starts at 7:30 pm, and winners will be announced at 8:00 pm. This is a free event.
